Day 1
Welcome Aboard! Discover the splendor of Christmas at the Mansions of Newport. Experience the elegance of the Gilded Age as you tour three magnificent mansions – Marble House, Elms Mansion, and the Breakers Mansion. The mansions will be beautifully decorated for the holidays with thousands of poinsettia plants, spectacular evergreens, trees, wreaths and fresh flowers. After checking into our waterfront hotel, the Newport Harbor Hotel and Marina for the next two nights, we go out for a delicious dinner at a local restaurant. Our accommodations are conveniently located downtown Newport, and are within walking distance to shops, restaurants, and attractions along the waterfront. (D)
Day 2
After a buffet breakfast we meet our step-on guide, and depart for a tour of Newport’s two famous scenic routes. First we will visit Bellevue Avenue which is lined with opulent “summer cottages”, and then we travel along Ten Mile Ocean Drive where we will view more stunning estates and enjoy spectacular views of the ocean. Following our riding tour we’ll visit the Marble House and Elms Mansion. Enjoy your self-guided tour through these two grand homes spectacularly decorated for the holidays. Later you will have the rest of the day to explore the Brick Market Place and Bowen’s Wharf. Containing over 25 unique shops and eateries, Brick Market Place includes three parallel rows of businesses offering everything you could dream of from Fashion to Shoes to handmade Gifts and Souvenirs. Bowen’s Wharf is the Anchor of the Newport Waterfront, and premiere shopping and dining destination! Here you are greeted by brick walks, granite quays, and 18th-century commercial wharf buildings where you’ll find fresh bouquets, fragrant soaps and body lotions, unique jewelry, the perfect Christmas gift, and the latest fashions for women and men. Tonight, dinner is on your own. For your convenience, there is an excellent restaurant located in the hotel, or you may choose to dine at one of the several restaurants conveniently located within walking distance of the hotel. (B)
Day 3
After a buffet breakfast we visit the Breakers Mansion, all decked out in yuletide finery for the holidays. The grandest mansion in all of Newport is a symbol of the Vanderbilt family’s social and financial preeminence in turn of the century America. After our tour we depart for home taking with us wonderful memories of the majestic holiday mansions of Newport. Happy Holidays! (B)
