Savannah’s Holiday Boat Parade
Yuletide Sights, Sounds and Lights!
Savannah, Georgia
Savannah’s a beautiful city year-round, now add holiday lights, cheer and mistletoe and you’ve got an exceptional Gunther Tours vacation you won’t easily forget! In addition to the regular sites – trolley tours, ghost walks, historic house visits, world-class restaurants – that make Savannah special, here’s a new Gunther Tours holiday tour for the 2016 tour season!
Day 1
Welcome Aboard! Join Gunther Tours for a yuletide season get-away to see the sights, sounds and lights of one of the most historic cities in the United States – Savannah, Georgia. We invite you to relax and enjoy being a guest at the Hilton Garden Inn Historic District for the next three nights. Our elegant and hospitable accommodations are set in the heart of the historic downtown district, and offer you easy access to the city’s vibrant night life, shopping, dining and entertainment. Before checking into our hotel, we enjoy a delicious dinner and a rousing good time at The Pirates’ House, a local restaurant situated a short block from the Savannah River. (D)
Day 2
After breakfast we meet our step-on guide, and depart for a tour of Savannah’s sprawling Historic District. You will be amazed by Savannah’s indescribable charm, architectural simplicity, its parks and squares and some of Savannah’s famous monuments dedicated to its leading citizens. We complete our tour with a visit to the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. Discover the beauty and history of this Mother Church of the Savannah Diocese, including its bright murals and the stained glassed windows that tell the stories of the lives of Jesus and his Blessed Mother. After our tour stroll along the cobblestone-paved Factors Walk and River Street, where old cotton warehouses have been converted into trendy shops, taverns and restaurants, all decorated in holiday themes! Later we return to our hotel to relax and freshen up before going out for dinner and entertainment aboard Savannah Riverboat Cruises. While on board you’ll view “A Christmas Parade”, the 14th Annual Boat Parade of Lights. About 35 lighted vessels, all decorated for the holidays on the Savannah River, parade both sides of the waterfront, accompanied by live music performances, a tree lighting ceremony, and a festive fireworks extravaganza you won’t want to miss! (B, D)
Day 3
After breakfast we meet our step-on guide, and depart for a tour of Savannah’s Low Country. Our guide will entertain and educate us with memorable tales about the area, while traveling through Savannah’s Victorian District and the historic and elegant neighborhood of Ardsley Park, which was developed in 1909 as Savannah’s first automobile suburb. You will see the charming fishing village of Thunderbolt, Fort Pulaski, Fort Screven, Tybee Lighthouse, and conclude our tour with a photo-stop on the beach on Tybee Island. After our tour we arrive at Papa’s Bar-B-Que & Seafood Restaurant, where you can enjoy a delicious lunch before we attend a Christmas Show at the Savannah Theatre. This afternoon’s show is a perfect blend of holiday glitz and glitter featuring the very best holiday music, comedy and audience participation! Later we return to our hotel where you can enjoy dinner on your own in the hotel’s dining room or in the Old City Market featuring numerous restaurants. Following dinner, step aboard our Holly Jolly Trolley with our Conductor “Elf”, who is delighted to entertain and amuse us with tales of Savannah’s favorite holiday traditions. Enjoy caroling from the trolley as we pass by festively decorated historic homes and city squares. Our tour will include a stop at the Historic Isaiah Davenport House and Savannah’s Candy Kitchen. At the Davenport House, we are transported back to the 1820’s to get a glimpse at a typical 19th-century family holiday and we are treated to cookies and cider in the garden. We’ll stop and visit the Gingerbread House display at the Westin Savannah Harbor, followed by a driving tour of Savannah Harbour Festival of Lights, a variety of Christmas lights and animated holiday theme-scenes, before returning to our hotel for a good night’s sleep. (B, L)
