Sleepy Hollow’s Legend Night
Pennsylvania & New York
Day 1:
Welcome Aboard! Travel in comfort aboard our
deluxe motor coach to “The Keystone State,” Pennsylvania. Upon arriving
in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, enjoy a guided walking tour
of the Eastern State Penitentiary. The tour will highlight Eastern
State’s fascinating 142-year history, revolutionary architecture and notorious
inmates. Next we will have some time to leisurely explore the Reading
Terminal Market. Enjoy shopping and lunch on your own at one
of the best, freshest, and liveliest public markets in the region. Following
lunch we board the American Trolley for a narrated sightseeing tour of
the dark side of Philadelphia. We will step into the dark underworld of
Philadelphia, during the daylight. The tour will include passing by Gallows
Square, where the last person hanged was William Gross in 1823. The space
has since been transformed into a place of beauty and tranquil. Before checking
into our hotel for the night, we are treated to a delicious dinner at a
popular local restaurant. (D)
Day 2:
After breakfast we depart for Lahaska,
Pennsylvania and Peddlers Village. Upon arriving we meet our tour
guide, for a walking tour of the Peddler’s Village
Scarecrow Festival. Following our tour enjoy some leisure time for shopping
in this colonial-style country village featuring 70 quality shops. Set on
42-acres of beautifully landscaped grounds and winding brick walkways, Peddler’s
Village is a refreshing alternative to mall shopping. Later we depart for the
Hudson Valley of New York. After checking into our hotel for the next
two nights, relax and enjoy a leisurely dinner on your own at
the restaurant located adjacent to the hotel. Next we attend the areas most
exciting Halloween event, The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze at Van Cortlandt
Manor, featuring more than 4,000 individually hand-carved, illuminated jack
o’lanterns. Enhanced by professional lighting and steeped in spooky music and
sound effects, this must-see event is a delight for all senses! (B)
Day 3:
After breakfast we meet our step-on
guide, and depart for a day of sightseeing. Our tour will include an
autumn boat cruise on the Hudson River. This afternoon you will enjoy a
rustic October Celebration at Philipsburg Manor. Enjoy the fun-filled
festivities which include pumpkin carving, spooky storytelling, open-hearth
cooking and colonial games for everyone! Visit the water-powered gristmill, 18th-century
barn and newly restored manor house. Dinner is on your own at the
festival grounds. Tonight we experience Legends Night at Philipsburg Manor.
Lit by candle lanterns and bonfires, this event truly brings “The Legend
of Sleepy Hollow” to life! It is a haunted landscape filled with
goblins and ghosts from Hudson Valley folklore. Later we return to our hotel
for a good night’s rest. (B)
Day 4:
After breakfast we depart for a tour of
Kykuit, home to four generations of the Rockefeller family, beginning with
the philanthropist John D. Rockefeller, the founder of Standard Oil. This is
the preeminent Hudson Valley landmark known for its architecture, remarkable
gardens, art, history and spectacular scenery. After lunch on your own
settle back and enjoy a scary movie on our drive home, while conjuring
up your own haunting memories from your sleepy hollow weekend get-away! (B)
