Boat Ride, Museum & IMAX
& Lunch at Atrium Cafe
Washington, D.C.
Today’s day trip features a special triple-header
adventure to our nation’s capital, Washington, D.C. We begin with an
enjoyable 1-hour mule-drawn boat ride on the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal
aboard a reproduction 19th-century canal boat. Experience traveling
through a historic lift lock while National Park Service Rangers, in period
clothing, describe the history and the lives of the families that worked on the
canal during the 1870’s. Next we will visit the National Museum of Natural
History. The Museum is dedicated to inspiring curiosity, discovery, and
learning about the natural world through its unparalleled research, collections,
exhibitions, and education outreach programs. Upon our arrival, enjoy a
delicious lunch at the Atrium Café, followed by a viewing of an
IMAX movie, showing a natural history oriented film. Highlights of the
museum’s collections you may wish to see, prior to departing for home, include
the 45.5-carat Hope Diamond, dinosaur fossils, Insect Zoo and the world’s
largest African bush elephant.
