Day 2: After a buffet breakfast we meet our step-on guide, and depart

for a narrated driving tour of Portland.  Portland is Maine’s largest city,

situated on Casco Bay at the beginning of the “rocky coast of Maine.”

Our tour of Portland will take us into Portland’s beautifully preserved

Victorian district, and past the grand dame of Portland architecture, the

“Victorian Mansion,” and the Wadsworth Longfellow House, where four

generations of one remarkable family lived, and made significant contributions

to the political, literary, and culture life of New England and the United States.

We will also view Portland’s busy, working waterfront and the Casco Bay

Islands.  A photo stop will be included at Portland Head Light, the oldest

lighthouse in Maine.  The lighthouse was commissioned by George

Washington and built in 1791.  Following our tour enjoy some leisure time at

Portland’s renovated “Old Port” area browsing, shopping, and having lunch

on your own.  Later we travel to Bar Harbor, Maine for the next two

nights.  En route we will stop at Fort Knox for a self-guided tour, and a

ride to the top of the Penobscot Observatory, for beautiful views of the

river and surroundings!  We check into the Bar Harbor Grand Hotel, a

new property replicated to resemble one of Bar Harbor’s original grand

hotels from the 1800’s.  Located on Main Street, our hotel is convenient

to the shops and restaurants in downtown Bar Harbor.  Tonight a traditional

Maine Lobster dinner is included at Bar Harbor Lobster Bakes(B, D)

Day 3: After a hearty continental breakfast we depart on a 2 hour nature

cruise on Frenchman Bay.  Enjoy the coastal Maine scenery as you cruise

past waterfront mansions and Acadia National Park.  A naturalist on board

will narrate the cruise as you search for local wildlife including seals, harbor

porpoises, osprey and eagles!  After our cruise enjoy some leisure time for

shopping and lunch on your own in downtown Bar Harbor.  This afternoon

we meet our step-on guide and depart for a driving tour of Acadia

National Park, established in 1919.  Included on our tour is a photo-stop

at the summit of Cadillac Mountain, the highest of Mount Desert’s

seventeen peaks for spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, bay

and islands beyond!  After returning to our hotel you will have time to sit,

relax and enjoy dinner on your own at one of many restaurants conveniently

located within walking distance of the hotel.  (B)

Day 4: After a hearty continental breakfast we “harbor hop” to the

postcard town of Camden, Maine, “the windjammer tall ship capital of

Maine.”  En route we will make a photo-stop at the summit of Mount Battie

with its breathtaking view of Penobscot Bay.  Next we will visit Owl’s Head

Transportation Museum.  See the collection of mint condition antique

automobiles and airplanes.  A box lunch is included at the museum.

Following our visit we continue on to Ogunquit, Maine, called “the

beautiful place by the sea.”  After checking into the Norseman On The

Beach, for the night, we are treated to a delicious dinner at a popular local

restaurant.  The hotel features the sandy beach just outside your door, so

enjoy an evening walk on the beach.  (B, L, D)
