America’s County

“Triumph and Tragedy”

Somerset, PA

Today we travel to Bedford County located in South Central, Pennsylvania for a day of sightseeing.  The countryside is beautiful, the people are friendly and there are many family orientated activities to enjoy.  We begin our adventure in Shanksville, Pennsylvania at the Flight 93 crash site.  You will be greeted by a Goodwill Ambassador who will provide facts about the fateful September 11th event and view the temporary memorial.  Your guide will update you on the plans for a permanent tribute.  Next we visit the Flight 93 Memorial Chapel and learn more about the crash victims and special tributes in their honor.  After our morning of touring, the Coal Mines Café will serve a delicious lunch that typifies the quality and quantity of food consumed by the hard working miners in the area.  After lunch we travel to the Quecreek Mine Rescue Site where we will hear the first hand accounts of the miraculous rescue of nine men trapped in a flooded mine and see the rescue site.  See the actual rescue shaft and award winning sculpture while learning about future plans for a Memorial Park.  We conclude our visit to America’s County by viewing turbo windmills that line the ridge tops of Bedford County, Pennsylvania.  Fast food stops will be made both en route to Bedford County and on the return trip home.
