Southern Seacoast Connecticut
Day 1:
Welcome Aboard! Settle back, relax and enjoy a
leisurely drive to the southern seacoast of Connecticut for a great
weekend get-away! We check into the Hampton Inn & Suites, located in
Mystic, Connecticut. The hotel has an indoor, heated saltwater pool, so
bring your bathing suit. A delicious dinner is included at a popular
local restaurant. (D)
Day 2:
After a hearty continental breakfast we
meet our step-on guide, and depart for a narrated driving tour of the
Connecticut seacoast. En route to the U. S. S. Nautilus Submarine and
Museum we will hear the story of Benedict Arnold as we tour historic Fort
Griswold. The U. S. S. Nautilus was the world’s first nuclear powered
vessel, and the first submarine to travel to the North Pole. We cross the
Connecticut River into New London, Connecticut for a drive through of the
U. S. Coast Guard Academy. Today’s tour wraps up with a 2 ½ hour train &
boat excursion. First we board the Essex Steam Train for a ride
through the picturesque countryside of the Connecticut River Valley. Next we
enjoy a riverboat cruise on the Connecticut River where we will pass the
hilltop castle built by actor William Gillette and the Goodspeed Opera House. A
box lunch is included on board the riverboat. Later we return to the
hotel to rest, relax and freshen up before departing for Mohegan Sun Casino.
Upon our arrival you will receive a bonus package compliments of the
casino. Following an exciting evening of gaming, and hopefully winning, we
return to our hotel for a good night’s sleep. (B, L)
Day 3:
After a hearty continental breakfast we
will visit the Mystic Seaport Museum. The maritime museum is the
nation’s largest and includes a re-creation of a 19th-century
seafaring community. Here you can climb aboard a tall ship, visit period homes
and shops, view the collections of marine art and artifacts, and enjoy
demonstrations daily. After lunch on your own we
depart for home with fond memories of our coastal New England weekend get-away!
