Boston Pops 4th of July

Boston, MA

Breaking News . . . It’s a first for Gunther Tours . . . Travel with Gunther Tours to Boston, Massachusetts for the 2011 Boston Pops 4th of July Concert.  For the past 38 years the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular has evolved into one of the nations premier Independence Day celebration.  Each year, since its inception, hundreds of thousands of people come from all over the country to the banks of the Charles River to celebrate America’s birthday, while another seven million tune in nationally on the CBS Television Network to view the event during a live one-hour primetime special.  Now you have the opportunity to experience it for yourself thanks to Gunther Tours . . . Don’t miss this very special celebration get-away!

Day 1: Welcome Aboard!  Travel in comfort aboard our deluxe motor coach to one of the most historic cities in the United States, Boston, Massachusetts, home to the world-famous Boston Pops Orchestra.  Upon our arrival we check into the Royal Sonesta Hotel, a suburban Boston hotel for the next two nights.  The deluxe, full service property is located on the Charles River, across the river from downtown Boston.  Next we depart for the Boston Esplanade where we will enjoy a Boston Pops Concert under the stars, and are treated to a box dinner(D)

Note:  This is not a reserved seating event.  You are required to bring your own blankets or folding lawn chairs.  We will provide you with a luggage tag for your chairs.  This concert is open lawn seating.  This concert is the rehearsal concert for the 4th.  There are no fireworks on the 3rd!

Day 2: After breakfast on your own at the hotel’s restaurant we meet our step-on guide, and depart for a narrated driving tour of historic Boston.  The tour will highlight Boston’s history and sites along the Freedom Trail.  After the tour, enjoy a narrated cruise of Boston Harbor to witness the U.S.S. Constitution’s Turn-Around Cruise.  Experience this annual event where on July 4th you can view the majesty of “Old Ironsides” under sail in Boston Harbor, and enjoy her 21-gun salute to the nation!  The afternoon is at your leisure to explore Quincy Market or the city.  Note:  For those who are not interested in the Boston tour and cruise, a 2nd on your own option is being offeredThe Oval at the Esplanade, (limited & best seating for tonight’s concert), opens at 9:00 AM and is first come, first served.  Passengers wanting optimal seats for the 4th of July concert will be dropped near the Esplanade to set up blankets and chairs, and receive a wristband to access the Oval.  Blankets and chairs should not be left unattended and those wishing to sit in the Oval area on July 4th should plan to stay at the Esplanade all day, or take turns with a friend “protecting” the space.  These passengers will be unable to participate in the driving tour or turn-around cruise.  We end the day on a musical note at the 4th of July Pops Concert and Fireworks Display from the Charles River Esplanade.  Note:  You will be able to hear, but unable to see, the Pops Concert.  The concert begins with the National Anthem and a flyover, and concludes with the 1812 Overture followed by a spectacular fireworks display on the Charles River!

Day 3: After breakfast on your own at the hotel’s restaurant we depart for home taking with us fond memories of historic Boston, and a July 4th get-away filled with inspired patriotic music and spectacular fireworks!

Note:  Due to Boston Pops 4th of July events, traffic conditions will restrict the access to and use of our motor coach during our visit.  Subsequently, we will have to use alternative local transportation or walk to the evening events!  Please wear comfortable walking shoes!  This tour is not suitable for people who have trouble with mobility!
