June 22-24 (Wednesday-Friday)
Safari, Mayberry RFD & Parade Land
Virginia & North Carolina
Day 1:
Welcome Aboard! Travel in comfort aboard our
deluxe motor coach to the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and Fort
Chiswell, Virginia. Upon our arrival we will visit “The Biggest
Little Zoo in Southwest Virginia”, the Fort Chiswell Animal Park,
to experience a truly unique and “wild” Safari ride. At Fort Chiswell Animal
Park you’ll come face-to-face with some of the friendliest and craziest animals
you’ll ever meet! We board specially designed land cruisers that will transport
you across 45 acres of rolling countryside, where you’ll come nose-to-nose with
herds of wild and exotic animals from six continents. Tour guides will
accompany you and share their expert knowledge of the various species observed
and their native habitats. You may even have the opportunity to feed a herd of
deer, kiss a friendly camel and dance with crazy monkeys all in one day! After
our tour, we will enjoy a delicious dinner at the Cracker Barrel
restaurant before checking into our hotel in Wytheville, Virginia, for
the next two nights. (D)
Day 2:
After a deluxe continental breakfast we
depart for Mount Airy, North Carolina for a day of sightseeing in
“Mayberry”. We begin at the Mount Airy Visitors Center to view a
10-minute video, memorabilia and other displays and collections related to
“Mayberry”. Next we meet our step-on guide and depart for a narrated
sightseeing tour of “Mayberry”. Highlights will include Granite Buildings,
the Old Mayberry Jail, Floyd’s City Barber Shop, the Andy Griffith Playhouse,
Andy’s Home Place and a drive through the world’s largest open faced granite
quarry. Of course a visit to Mount Airy would not be complete without lunch
at Snappy Lunch, Mount Airy’s oldest eating establishment. After
lunch you may choose to explore the Main Oak Emporium, a place to find
everything you need from arts and crafts to accessories and collectibles. After
returning to Wytheville, we are treated to a delicious dinner, followed
by a delightful performance at the Wohlfahrt Haus Dinner Theatre.

Day 3:
After a deluxe continental breakfast we
depart for New Market, Virginia. Upon our arrival we will enjoy a
delicious buffet lunch and entertainment at the Johnny
Appleseed Restaurant. Next we visit the American Celebration On Parade,
and explore this fantasyland of floats and props which have been used in
Presidential Inaugurals and well known parades such as the Rose Bowl Parade and
the Macys Thanksgiving Day parade. Later we depart for home taking with us many
fond memories of the Blue Ridge Mountains, exotic animal encounters, the
innocence of “Mayberry” and the magic of fantastic floats. (B, L)
