Start your adventure in Washington, D.C. at the National Arboretum Gardens.  A tram tour which highlights the 446-acres of the U.S. National Arboretum’s gardens, collections and natural areas is included.  During the 35-minute non-stop ride, you will hear an informative, taped narrative about the Arboretum, its history, its mission and its research, plus the arboretum’s display gardens and collections.  Afterwards enjoy a leisurely stroll around the gardens viewing what currently is in bloom, planting areas of special interest and don’t forget to visit the gift shop.  Next we depart for Mason Neck, Virginia and Gunston Hall Plantation, a 550-acre National Historic Landmark built in the 1750’s.  Included is a guided tour of the early 17th century mansion.  With it’s elaborate interior design and carvings, the Manor House is considered an architectural gem.  Later take a self-guided tour of the plantations gardens, and a group of reconstructed buildings which include a kitchen, dairy, smokehouse, and laundry.  Enjoy the view of the Potomac River from Mason’s garden overlook, or you may wish to take a peaceful hike down to the banks of the Potomac.  A box lunch is included at Gunston Hall Plantation.  Please provide a meal choice when making your reservations.  Your choices are Beef Sandwich, Turkey Sandwich, or Veggie Sandwich.
