April 16-17 (Saturday-Sunday)
The Living Cross & War Memorials
Bedford, Lynchburg & Petersburg, VA
Day 1:
Welcome Aboard! Travel in comfort aboard our
deluxe motor coach to the “Old Dominion State,” Virginia for a
mini-vacation. We begin in Bedford, Virginia at the National D-Day
Memorial, one of the most inspiring memorials ever constructed. Image a
place where the lessons and legacy of D-Day are remembered and preserved; a
place where veterans of all ages are welcomed and honored; a place where
visitors discover and recognize the worthy service of those who answer duty’s
call; a place where gravity and dignity are hallmarks. Deliberately sited to
rise above the community that experienced this country’s severest per capita
losses on D-Day, the National D-Day Memorial reminds all who enter it of the
heavy price that heartland communities have paid, and still pay, for freedom.
Our visit includes a 1 hour guided walking tour, followed
by some time on your own strolling around the Memorial allowing
you plenty of time for taking photos. Don’t forget to make a stop at the
Memorial gift shop. After our tour we depart for our hotel accommodations for
the night in Lynchburg, Virginia. A delicious dinner is included
at the hotel. Finally, we end the day on a musical note by attending “The
Living Cross” Easter Show at the Hyland Heights Baptist Church. Sit
back, relax and enjoy a dramatic presentation which follows the birth, ministry,
crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. (D)
Day 2:
After breakfast we depart for
Petersburg, Virginia and the Pamplin Historical Park & The National
Museum of the Civil War Soldier. Upon arriving, we meet our guide
who will escort us throughout our tour of the Park. Plan on taking a
step back in history to the Civil War era and learn about the Civil War and life
in the antebellum South. The Park includes four fascinating museums; four
historic buildings, and guided tours of both Tudor Hall
Plantation and the Breakthrough Battlefield. Both the plantation and
battlefield tours are about 45 minutes long. A delicious buffet lunch is
included at the museum. Later we depart for home taking with us a new
appreciation for the service, sacrifice and history of American veterans and the
Civil War era. Note: For your comfort, we recommend you wear
comfortable walking shoes. (B, L)
