Monticello & Michie Tavern

Charlottesville, VA

Today we depart for the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains for a day of sightseeing.  We begin at Monticello, the estate of Thomas Jefferson, our third U. S. President and author of the Declaration of Independence.  Highlights of our Monticello tour include an intimate look at the extraordinary house Thomas Jefferson built and furnished for himself and his family.  See the books, gadgets, art, furnishings, and objects that reveal Jefferson’s unique mind.  The guided house tour covers the rooms on Monticello’s first floor, followed by access to the grounds and two outdoor guided tours, of the Plantation Community and of the Gardens and Grounds.  This afternoon enjoy a delicious buffet lunch served at the historic Michie Tavern by servers in period attire in a rustic Tavern setting.  Before we depart for home we conclude our day with a guided tour of Michie Tavern.  A fast food stop will be made en route to Charlottesville, and a rest stop will be made on the return trip home.
