Welcome Aboard! Join us
for a fun-filled get-away full of spectacular scenery, holiday cheer and
yuletide spirit in Wheeling, West Virginia. Upon our arrival we will
check into the lovely Wilson Lodge, the centerpiece of Oglebay Park, for
the next two nights. Tonight enjoy a delicious buffet dinner,
followed by an evening of holiday entertainment at the lodge. Later we
will enjoy a ride through Oglebay’sWinter Festival of Lights
featuring a dazzling variety of Christmas lights and animated displays.
Day 2: After a buffet breakfast we depart for
the Mansion Museum where extravagance abounds as you walk through the
elegantly decorated rooms. Originally the home of Colonel Oglebay and his
family, the mansion is furnished with many period antiques that help to create
an atmosphere that takes you back in time. Next we will visit the Glass
Museum with displays of over 3,000 examples of West Virginia glass made from
1829-1939. We visit the Winter Fantasy Events at the Good Zoo next. Here
we will enjoy a laser show that is choreographed to Christmas music, see
the state’s largest O-gauge model train display, and participate in some
hands-on activities at the Discovery Lab. In the afternoon we return to
the lodge where you will have time to sit, relax and enjoy the amenities of this
wonderful resort. Finally, tonight we are treated to a delicious dinner
and a cabaret show at the lodge. The cabaret show, a musical tribute
to Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, recalls the music, laughter and
songs which are forever linked to these legendary men of American song and
comedy.
Day 3: After a buffet breakfast we depart for
The Eckhart House. Upon our arrival we will meet our guide, an
Eckhart House historian, who will entertain and enlighten us about the rich
history of this unique American property and life during the Victorian era. One
of the nation’s most impressive Victorian structures, the Eckhart House boasts
most of its original opulent features, including hand painted floral prints on
the walls and ceilings, classic Queen Anne windows and intricate fretwork. After
our tour we depart for home taking with us many pleasant memories of a wonderful
yuletide celebration get-away filled with holiday cheer, music and the grandeur
and magic that was the Victorian era! Happy Holidays!
