October 28-31 (Thursday-Sunday)
Ghosts, Witches & Gravestones
Coastal New England
Day 1: Welcome Aboard! Are you
ready for a chilling, thrilling, and frightening ghostly tour that will keep you
smiling throughout your coastal New England weekend get-away? After checking
into our hotel for the night, you can relax and enjoy a leisurely dinner
on your own at the hotel’s restaurant at your leisure. Later we begin
our adventures into the world of the unexplained with Nautical Nightmares
at the Mystic Seaport Museum. Some of the ghostly goings-on you will
experience at Nautical Nightmares are things that go bump in the night, eerie
tales of local ghost, legends and unsolved mysteries, and you will encounter
spirits who will guide you through a darkened village. But beware! The sounds
you hear in the dark may be more than just the spirits of the night! Note:
Please bring a flashlight!
Day 2: After a hearty continental breakfast we
depart for Newport, Rhode Island, and the incredible Belcourt Castle.
Our tour guide recounts the rich history of this magnificent Louis XIII
Gilded Age style mansion, including it’s scandal, wealth and sightings of
resident spirits. Next you will have leisure time to explore and shop at the
seaside Brick Marketplace before we continue on to the Lizzie
Borden House. Relive the shocking and sensational 1892 murders of the Borden
family, as we tour this Victorian home turned into a Bed & Breakfast. We
continue on to Gloucester, Massachusetts for a delicious dinner at
a popular local restaurant. After dinner we will experience terror like never
before. Don’t expect bed sheet-wearing ghosts jumping out and yelling “BOO!”
here. No, “Castle of the Damned” is out to chill your very soul,
(not suitable for young children or the faint of heart!) Later we check
into our suburban Boston, Massachusetts hotel for the next two nights.
Day 3: After a hearty continental breakfast we
meet our step-on guide, and depart for a tour of Salem, Massachusetts.
We will learn about the witch hysteria that overtook Salem in the 17th-century.
We will visit the Salem Witch Museum and relive the hysteria of the
famous 1692 Witch Trials. Today the Village of Salem comes alive with the spirit
of Halloween in celebration of Salem’s Haunted Happenings. Enjoy the
fun-filled festivities which include haunted houses, psychic readers, live
entertainment, special museums events and delicious eateries. Lunch and dinner
on your own. Tonight we will visit Nathaniel Hawthorne’s home,
House of Seven Gables for Spirits of the Gables. Here at one of the
most legendary structures in America, you will encounter the cursed spirits that
haunt this historic mansion, and come face to face with Hawthorne’s tormented
characters, as they bring to life the curse driven by guilt, greed, and revenge.
Day 4: After a hearty continental breakfast
settle back and enjoy a scary movie on our drive home, while conjuring up your
own haunting memories from your ghostly New England weekend get-away.
