Welcome Aboard! Travel
in comfort aboard our deluxe motor coach to the majestic Hudson River Valley
of New York. Upon our arrival we will have lunch on your own.
Following lunch we will meet our step-on guide and depart for a tour
of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Home and Library. FDR’s lifelong home in Hyde
Park contains extensive displays on the life and careers of Franklin and Eleanor
Roosevelt. Before checking into the Holiday Inn Kingston for the next
two nights, we will enjoy a delicious dinner at a popular local
restaurant. The hotel is located just a few blocks from the Uptown Historic
District.
Day 2: After a buffet breakfast we meet our
step-on guide, and depart for a tour of Wilderstein. This Queen Anne
style mansion was the home to Daisy Suckley, a companion of FDR. Next we will
visit the Culinary Institute of America, which is committed to providing
the world’s best professional culinary education to America’s next generation of
great chef’s. A culinary student will conduct our tour of the school, and
will be followed by a delicious luncheon. After lunch we tour the
Frederic Vanderbilt Mansion. This lavish mansion was the spring and fall
home of Frederick Vanderbilt. The home’s architecture is reminiscent of a French
chateau with Italian gardens, and has spectacular views of the Hudson River and
valley. After returning to our hotel in Kingston you will have leisure time to
sit, relax and enjoy dinner on your own at the hotel’s restaurant
at your leisure.
Day 3: After a buffet breakfast we meet our
step-on guide, and depart for West Point, the home of our nation’s
oldest service academy. We will enjoy a narrated tour of the Army Academy
that includes a visit to Trophy Point and the Cadet Chapel. This
afternoon we visit The National Purple Heart Hall of Fame which is
located on the grounds of the New Windsor Cantonment State Historic Site in New
York’s Hudson River Valley. The 7,500 square foot facility is dedicated to the
sharing and preservation of the stories of courage and heroism lived by
America’s combat wounded veterans and those who never returned, all recipients
of the Purple Heart. Following our visit we depart for home, with our box
lunch, taking with us memories of scenic Upstate New York and its place in
our nations history.
