September 20-27 (Saturday-Saturday)
Mackinac Island & The Grand Hotel
Mackinac Island, MI
Day 1:
Welcome Aboard! Today we journey aboard our deluxe motor coach towards the
Victorian-style island of Mackinac. A picturesque island that evokes a bygone
era, Mackinac Island is often called the “Bermuda of the North.” Before
checking into our comfortable hotel for two nights, enjoy a delicious
dinner.
Day 2:
After a deluxe continental breakfast we
visit Greenfield Village, and the Henry Ford Museum, America’s
greatest history attraction. Tour historic homes and famous American workshops
including those of The Wright Brothers, Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, and Robert
Frost on the grounds of the Henry Ford Museum. Due to the large size and
historic nature of Greenfield Village, we’ve added the Transportation Pass
including the historic steam locomotive, Model T, vintage Model A bus,
horse-drawn carriages, Suwanee Boat (in season) and Herschell-Spillman
Carousel. This evening dinner is included at a local restaurant.
Day 3:
After a deluxe continental breakfast we
depart for Mackinac City, and ferry to the “magical land”
of Mackinac Island. Your horse-drawn carriage will be waiting at
the dock to transport you to your luxurious home for the next two nights,
the world-famous Grand Hotel. This evening, experience gracious
hospitality when you enjoy a fine dinner, off the menu in
the main dining room. At the Grand Hotel, there is a dress code after 6:00
PM. Gentlemen are required to wear a jacket and tie, and the ladies are
required to wear a dress, skirt, or pant suit.
Day 4:
After a full breakfast you will board a
horse-drawn carriage for a guided tour of this lovely Victorian-style
island that has defied time. Following your ride enjoy some leisure time as
you explore the shops along Huron Street, while strolling through the
cottage-filled village dotted with flowers, or you can choose to sit and relax
in one of the famous “rockers on the longest porch in the country.” A delicious
dinner, off the menu awaits you in the main dining room
tonight. Dress code after 6:00 PM. Please see Day 3.
Day 5:
Enjoy a full breakfast at your leisure.
With part of the morning free you can choose to sit, relax, and experience the
comforts of this fabulous hotel. Early afternoon we are transported by our
horse-drawn carriage to the ferry for our cruise back to the mainland.
Later we depart for the unique town of Frankenmuth, an enchanting town
with a rich Bavarian influence and gingerbread-style architecture. We check
into the Bavarian Inn Lodge, a downtown hotel located on the banks of the
Cass River for the next two nights, and are treated to a delicious
dinner, followed by entertainment.
Day 6:
After a buffet breakfast we meet our
step-on guide, and depart for a narrated driving tour of Frankenmuth.
The tour will include highlights of the rich heritage on which the city was
founded, the Bavarian theme of the quaint town stores, and the cities unique
attractions. Following your tour, we’ll visit Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland,
the world’s largest Christmas store. This afternoon is at your leisure to
explore the town’s many European-influence shops and bakeries before we are
treated to a delicious Bavarian-style meal, complete with a German
wine tasting and entertainment.
Day 7:
After a German-style buffet breakfast we
depart for Akron, Ohio and visit Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, a
magnificent Historic House Museum and Country Estate. Enjoy a guided tour of
The Manor House, one of the finest examples of Tudor Revival architecture in
America. Next we view The Gardens, 70 landscaped acres of beauty and
