Chicago & The Mississippi River
Day 1:
Welcome Aboard! Today we journey aboard our
deluxe motor coach towards the great American city of Chicago, and the
city of Le Claire, Iowa located along a beautiful bend on the upper
Mississippi River. We overnight in Indianapolis, Indiana. Dinner is
on your own.
Day 2:
After a deluxe continental breakfast you
are off to the “Windy City” of Chicago. Upon arrival, you will have some
time to visit Chicago’s Historical Navy Pier where you’ll find more than
50 acres of parks, gardens, shops, restaurants, entertainment and attractions.
After lunch we depart on a narrated architecture river cruise on the
beautiful Chicago River as our guide showcases more than 40 landmarks of modern
American Architecture. After checking into our hotel, the Hampton Inn &
Suites for the next two nights, we are treated to a delicious
dinner at a fine restaurant.
Day 3:
After a deluxe continental breakfast we
meet our step-on guide, and depart for a narrated driving tour of
Chicago. The tour will cover Chicago’s downtown and the Loop. We stop at
the John Hancock Observatory which features exhibits on Chicago’s
history, and of course offers the best views in town! A box lunch is
included with your afternoon at The Field Museum; one of Chicago’s most
popular. See “Sue”, a key highlight of the museum, the world’s largest, most
complete Tyrannosaurus Rex ever found. This evening dine on a sumptuous
dinner at an exciting themed restaurant.
Day 4:
Enjoy a deluxe continental breakfast at
your leisure, as the day is yours to enjoy as you wish. Entertainment,
restaurants, shops, and museums are all within walking distance of the hotel.
Late afternoon we depart for Iowa where we check into our hotel for the
night. Upon arrival, we are treated to a welcome reception, followed by
a delicious buffet dinner.
Day 5:
We greet the day by boarding the beautiful
Riverboat Twilight for the first of two days of cruising on the Mississippi
River. Fresh coffee, sweet rolls, milk and fruit juice will be waiting for
you on board. Additionally, you will have lunch and dinner
onboard the cruise today. Snacks, musical entertainment, and bingo games are
enjoyed throughout the day. This evening the boat docks in Dubuque, Iowa,
and we overnight at the Grand Harbor Hotel located on the bank of the
Mississippi River.
Day 6:
Enjoy breakfast at your leisure. With
part of the morning free you can tour the National Mississippi River Museum,
explore the quaint shops at Cable Car Square, or try your luck at the Diamond Jo
Casino. We board the Twilight for lunch and dinner, and
our cruise back to Le Claire, Iowa. After checking into our hotel for
the night, we are treated to a welcome reception, followed by a good
night’s rest.
Day 7:
After a buffet breakfast we depart for
South Bend, Indiana. We visit the University of Notre Dame, an
independent Catholic university. The tour will feature major campus highlights,
and will offer a historical and social overview of life on campus. Late
afternoon we depart for Indianapolis, Indiana where we check into our
hotel for the night.
Day 8:
After a deluxe continental breakfast we
depart for home reminiscing about the great American city, Chicago, and our
grand adventure on the Mississippi River.
