“Fiesta Week”
- This celebration rivals New Orleans’ Mardi
Gras in color and fun. The military bases hold special events, the arts
community has special exhibitions, and the focal event is La Villita,
where more than 100 booths offer many exotic foods, and dancing. Another
highlight is a spectacular boat parade on the San Antonio Riverwalk, and
you are right there!
Day 1:
Welcome Aboard! Spring is finally here as we
depart for our first night’s lodging in South Carolina. Lunch included.
Day 2:
After breakfast we depart for Atlanta,
Georgia, and the famous Stone Mountain Park. Located on 3,300 acres
of natural beauty, Stone Mountain Park features a wide variety of activities
from the sky ride to the top of Stone Mountain, where you get an up-close
look at the Stone Mountain carving, to the scenic train ride that goes around
the mountain. We’ll continue the adventure with a paddlewheel riverboat
cruise on the Stone Mountain Lake. Later, we visit the Antique Car and
Treasure Museum, and an Antebellum Plantation. Dinner will be
included before we overnight in Montgomery, Alabama.
Day 3:
Spring is in the air! Following breakfast
we’ll depart for Bellingrath Gardens where we will have time to visit
this unique and beautiful garden. After our visit, we depart for our next
overnight in La Fayette, Louisiana. Located near by is a Cracker Barrel
Restaurant. Dinner is on your own.
Day 4:
We depart after breakfast for San
Antonio, Texas. The city is full of excitement, as this is Fiesta Week.
Our hotel is located on the Historic Riverwalk. After dinner
enjoy a relaxing canal ride on one of the “Fiesta” barges. As you travel
up the river, you past the sidewalk cafes, cabarets, boutiques, and hotels that
line the Riverwalk. This will acquaint you with the areas of the Riverwalk you
can walk to.
Day 5:
Following breakfast we’ll meet our
step-on guide for a very informative tour of San Antonio. You’ll
visit the San Jose Mission, built in 1777, and once lived in by over 300
people. Spanish and Moorish design is reflected in the Cathedral and
surrounding buildings. Visit Market Square where you can buy lots of
souvenirs. See The Alamo, where in 1836 Davey Crockett, Jim Bowie, and
185 Texans stood off Dictator Santa Anna and 5,000 Mexican troops. “Remember
the Alamo!” Also view the King William District. The rest of the day is
yours to enjoy as you wish. Dinner included and reserved seating for the
River Parade.
Day 6:
Breakfast
is at your leisure, as the entire day is yours to enjoy as you wish. Pick up a
schedule of the “Fiesta” events at the hotel information desk. Entertainment,
restaurants, shops, and museums are all within walking distance of the hotel. A
special side trip, is available, (at your own expense - approximately $50)
to the home of President Lyndon B. Johnson. The tour includes a visit
to the LBJ ranch and his boyhood home in Johnson City. Later you will have time
to shop in Fredericksburg, the home of the National Museum of the Pacific
War. Our final stop of the day is in the town where “Everybody’s Somebody”,
Luckenbach, Texas. The side trip returns by 5:30 PM, in time for you to
enjoy the evening’s festivities.
Day 7:
After breakfast, and an exciting time in
San Antonio, we now depart for Dallas, Texas. We’ll meet our step-on
guide for a very informative tour of Dallas to include: the
Kennedy Memorial and Assassination Site, the Sixth Floor Exhibit,
which is a pictorial history of the life and legacy of the President, the
Arts District, and the beautiful bronze life size sculptures of Texas
Long Horn Steers and Cowboys! Tonight enjoy dinner at a local Dallas
restaurant.
Day 8:
After a restful night, and breakfast we
depart for Hot Springs, Arkansas. Lunch is included before we
check into, The Arlington Resort and Spa. Arrive in the early afternoon
with time to enjoy the town. Don’t be surprise if you run into one of the rich
and famous here. You may even wish to enjoy a massage and a Hot Springs bath.
(Reservations are required for bath and/or massage 1-800-626-9768, with
the “works” approximately $65.) The evening’s entertainment features
music and dancing in the beautiful lobby of the Arlington Resort and Spa.
Day 9:
After breakfast we are off to
Nashville, Tennessee. Tonight enjoy dinner, followed by reserved
seating at the Grand Ole Opry Show. Don’t be surprise if you see one of
your favorite Grand Ole Opry members such as Little Jimmy Dickens, Jack Green,
Connie Smith, Marty Stuart, or Clint Black performing tonight. We overnight in
Nashville.
Day 10:
Nashville has lots to offer; yet our time is
limited. To keep in the spirit of entertainment, we’ll enjoy a morning show
before departing for Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. After check-in, have
time to rest before departing for dinner and a show.
Day 11:
After breakfast we depart with fond
memories and souvenirs from our “Fiesta” tour. A delicious dinner
included en route home.
